We appreciate that it can baffle you a little when you hear the term ‘heating controls’. Do you really know how effective these can be in your home and how vital they can be to keep the costs of your energy bills down.
Heating controls are paramount for as they serve to ensure that your boiler operates efficiently and to help reduce your energy wastage. Clever use of your boiler control gives you complete control over your home’s central heating system, allowing you to keep each room in your home at just the right temperature to minimise your energy consumption. Let’s face it, we all don’t want to heat rooms in our home if we are not using them, certainly with the rising energy costs.
As mentioned above, normally your controls are changed at a time when you replace your boiler. But, you can also do this at any time. Here at MJM Plumbing (Lincoln) Ltd, our gas safe engineers are available to assist in any questions that you may have around this.

Radiator Valves (TRV)?
A thermostatic radiator valve, or TRV for short, is an independent heating control for that radiator, the valve essentially allows the radiator to function with a degree of independence.
A TRV allows the homeowner to control the temperature in individual rooms, for instance having a lower heating level in an unused bedroom than in the lounge. With a TRV fitted to radiators, heating levels can reflect room usage rather than all rooms being heated en masse, with the resultant huge waste of energy and expense.
TRVs are hugely popular and with good reason, for most rooms they are the sensible default option. These valves have a range of compelling arguments for being used, namely:
1) Switch your TV off totally and don’t leave it on standby (Saving £55 per year)
2) Only fill the kettle with the water you need (Saving £36 per year)
3) Turn off all the lights in the rooms that you are not using (Saving £20 per year)
4) Take a maximum 4 minute shower (Saving £70 per year)
5) Wash at 30 degrees and reduce use by one wash per week (Saving £20 per year)
